Vermicomposting and wormery project
As a non-profit community interest company, one of our main objectives is to reduce food miles and enhance local community resilience. In line with this objective, we launched Wales’ first-ever Farmstart initiative.
Vermicomposting and wormery is a pioneering project under this initiative which aims to provide local compost to local food growers in the area.
Recent activities and efforst include:
- Developing a worm nursery utilizing vertically stacked trays.
- Designing a vertical flow reactor to expedite the production of worm casts.
- Engaging with the vermicomposting community online to discuss existing kitchen waste collection programs and subscription systems.
- Reducing methane emissions from municipal waste collectors.
- Enhancing knowledge and availability of vermiculture products at a local level.
