“In terms of what’s next for the CIC, we’re currently building our website, and alongside that exploring options to obtain land where we can establish honey bee food forests, host beekeeper meetups and process honey on site. Big ambitions!

Right now though it’s all hands on deck for the summer honey harvest. The heatwave has produced extraordinary nectar flow conditions and some of our hives are seriously heavy, so extraction is very much on the agenda. August also marks the start of getting colonies ready for overwintering, which is a critical window for colony health, so it’s a busy time all round. We’ve also got queen rearing to finish, new apiaries to set up and existing ones to maintain, plus a run of summer events to attend.
