Youth Pathways

In October our Youth Pathways was launched with an accredited course in Horticulture called ‘Food & Farming’. It ran over 4 weeks at Clynfyw Farmstart and community garden, and was funded by the National Grid ‘Community Matters Fund’.

We welcomed 9 young people aged between 16-24, some came from as far as Haverfordwest as the transport was covered by the grant. The skills covered were sowing seeds, compost and planting an area and the learners will gain an Agored Cymru entry level 1 award in Horticulture.

Many thanks to the horticultural team (Pete & Jo) and to the volunteers and Clynfyw participants who help in the community garden who all supported the learners. With special thanks to Jill & Jason who spent a whole session teaching the young people about their amazing compost area at Clynfyw.

Some of the learners were returning to Ffynnon after coming to Field of Beans through Futureworks in the spring and we have just been booked to deliver another accredited horticulture course to Futureworks next spring.

It is hoped that some of the young people will continue their Ffynnon Youth Pathway by volunteering, either at one of the gardens or helping out with children’s activities.
