Clynfyw Community Weekly Volunteer Days
Abercych, Pembrokeshire SA37 0HF
Every Thursday 1 – 4PM
We’ve had a busy time recently at Clynfyw, sowing all sorts of vegetables, and starting to plant out tomatoes in the polytunnels. They are relatively hardy varieties, and with protection, have survived the recent cold nights.
The wet spring caused a slow start outdoors, but there are lovely flowers on the overwintered broad beans, and we’ve managed to plant peas, spinach beet, parsnips, onions and some potatoes!
The overwintered polytunnel crops have really sprung into growth with the lengthening days and we’ve been enjoying delicious, freshly picked salads and greens. These are now being cleared to make way for summer crops and the strawberries are blooming and starting to bear fruit.
We’ve been moving the compost bays to create a new composting area below the big polytunnel, making way for the Farmstart building. We have a new home for the huge apple pulp compost pile, which we want to cover with pumpkins and squashes. Luckily rabbits don’t seem interested in curcubits!
We’re hoping to create a medicinal herb area in the Clynfyw garden, so Ffynnon is organising a training session at Clynfyw with medical herbalist Salena Walker, details and date to be confirmed.
Looking forward to the coming season! All welcome to join us in the garden, we’re there from 10-3 on Thursdays.
