It’s been a productive and unusually exciting early autumn in the Clynfyw Garden. The hot summer ripened our pumpkins to a beautiful orange just in time for the harvest festival, which was held on 5th September. We selected a whopper for the ‘guess the weight of the pumpkin’ competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The highlight of the day was a visit from First Minister Eluned Morgan, who took the opportunity to stock up on fresh local produce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The very next day, Saturday 6th September, the excitement continued, when the latest issue of Amateur Gardening magazine hit the shelves, with an illustrated double page spread on composting at Clynfyw, written by veteran garden volunteer Jill. Fame at last for the hard-working composters! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The harvest festival event raised \u00a3390.65 for the garden, of which over \u00a390 was from produce sales and the pumpkin competition! We’re saving up for more irrigation equipment, because keeping the garden watered during this summer’s drought has been extremely challenging. But despite the difficulties, we’ve managed to grow plenty of fresh vegetables for garden volunteers to take home, the Clynfyw kitchen, veg boxes for staff, and to contribute to the Ffynnon and Ein Cegin community meals<\/p>\n\n\n\n
