If we want to build a future where good food, thriving ecosystems, and dignified livelihoods are possible, we have to think systemically\u2014and act locally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Ffynnon, we aim to do just that. We\u2019re not just responding to challenges\u2014we\u2019re designing <strong>scalable, replicable models<\/strong> that others can learn from and build on. This blog is a chance to share some of what we\u2019re already doing, where we\u2019re heading, and the kind of partnerships and support that will help us go further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ffynnon Farmstart<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2024, we established the UK\u2019s first <strong>mixed Farmstart<\/strong>\u2014supporting new entrants into farming across mixed enterprises, from <strong>vermicompost to cattle<\/strong>. We\u2019ve built this model in collaboration with inspiring organisations like the <strong>Landworkers\u2019 Alliance<\/strong>, <strong>The Kindling Trust<\/strong>, <strong>Tamar Grow Local<\/strong>, and others who\u2019ve shared their time, knowledge, and experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is more than a training scheme\u2014it\u2019s a real route into farming for people with no land access, especially those balancing work, family, and financial uncertainty. We offer not only land and support but subsidised training, local markets, and a community to grow with. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rolosolo.co.uk\/ffynnon.co.uk\/farmstart\/#!form\/Farmstart\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">We\u2019re currently  recruiting our next cohort of Farmstarters for 2025.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Living Compost<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Ffynnon TLC (The Living Compost) Our vermicompost project is helping reshape the <strong>local horticulture supply chain<\/strong>. Led by Kev and supported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clynfyw.co.uk\/\">Clynfyw Care Farm<\/a> participants, we\u2019re transforming local waste (like horse manure and coffee grounds) into high-quality compost and wormcast. This keeps things circular, local and sustainable while supporting local growers<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re exploring partnerships with local waste processors, to take this even further\u2014creating a regionally rooted, circular economy product that\u2019s better for growers as well as the planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Food Loop<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Ffynnon Food Loop<\/strong> is a growing network of local food and drink producers\u2014ranging from growers and meat farmers to artisan suppliers\u2014across Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion, and Carmarthenshire. Through a free, easy-to-use directory and interactive map, it directly connects producers with customers, retailers, and community ventures. This initiative not only aims to promotes local food, reduces food miles, and strengthens the regional economy, but also fosters collaboration over competition. By providing map listings, promotional support (to include social media, newsletters, events, and paid advertising), with a platform for special offers waiting, the Food Loop empowers small-scale producers to reach new markets and scale their impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Coed Ffynnon<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Coed Ffynnon<\/strong>, our new <strong> tree nursery<\/strong>, is also up and running. Focused on growing trees from local seed, it\u2019s part of a wider shift in how we think about land care, biodiversity, and supply chains. We\u2019re working toward partnerships that allow nurseries like ours to supply <strong>locally adapted trees<\/strong> for larger-scale planting\u2014offering an alternative to mass imports and contributing to resilient local landscapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Demetae Project<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019re passionate about creating entry points for those too often excluded. Our collaborations with organisations like <strong>Futureworks<\/strong>, <strong>CAMHS<\/strong>, <strong>Awel Aman Tawe<\/strong> and <strong>local schools<\/strong> are helping both<strong> children and young adults<\/strong> explore the outdoors, gardening, horticulture and farming as potentially viable and rewarding paths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This work isn\u2019t just about training\u2014it\u2019s about confidence, self esteem and connection, and a sense of possibility. We\u2019ve seen firsthand how access to land-based work can be transformative for people rebuilding themsleves and their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What\u2019s Next?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Tool Library \/ Machinery Ring<\/strong> \u2013 We&#8217;re exploring how to set up shared access to tools and small-scale machinery. We\u2019re gathering input on what\u2019s most needed\u2014get in touch if you have ideas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>New accredited courses<\/strong> \u2013 We&#8217;re working with <strong>Agored<\/strong>, <strong>PLANED<\/strong>, and <strong>Pembrokeshire County Council<\/strong> to co-develop meaningful qualifications tied to real-world benefits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pig cooperative<\/strong> \u2013 A potential group project exploring shared ownership and short, transparent supply chains. We\u2019re looking for collaborators\u2014get in touch if that\u2019s you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pembrokeshire Local Food Partnership<\/strong> \u2013 We\u2019ve recently joined this county-wide collaboration, helping shape strategic good food governance alongside <strong>PAVS<\/strong>, <strong>PLANED<\/strong>, and <strong>PCC<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A Community farm<\/strong> &#8211; <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Food Loop &#8211; <\/strong>Delivery loops, from production to plates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Systemic Change Is Messy\u2014and Worth It<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We know real change doesn\u2019t come quickly or cleanly. It takes experimentation, collaboration, and the courage to try new approaches.
